The volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the waters of the Sunda Strait, increased again on Friday (10/7/2026). The volcano was reported to have erupted at 16:42 WIB, marked by the spewing of ash material into the air.
Based on the official report from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the resulting ash column reached a height of about 250 meters above the peak, or equivalent to 407 meters above sea level. The volcanic material was observed to be thick and dark black.
In visual observations, the spread of the volcanic ash moved to the north, northeast, to northwest. In addition to visual observations, seismogram instruments also recorded the eruptive activity with a maximum amplitude of 55.2 millimeters.
This eruption was recorded to have lasted for a short duration, approximately 33 seconds. To date, authorities continue to conduct intensive monitoring of the active volcano's status to ensure safety mitigation for the area around the Sunda Strait remains maintained.
