The Meranti Islands Regency Government, together with the local National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI), has officially aligned strategic steps to face the Riau Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) 2027. This synergy was marked by a coordination meeting held at the Meranti Islands Regent's Office on Thursday (23/7/2026).
The meeting was led directly by the Chairman of KONI Meranti Islands, Hidayat Abdurrahman, along with the daily board members. They were warmly welcomed by the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Meranti Islands, Sudandri Jauzah, accompanied by Assistant I Tengku Arifin, Assistant II Irmansyah, and several of the regent's expert staff. The interactive dialogue aimed to unite the vision for sports development in the region nicknamed "Sago City".
On that occasion, Hidayat presented the initial readiness roadmap of the committee and the projections of potential sports branches to be delegated to the Riau Porprov 2027. He stressed that success in producing high-achieving athletes cannot rely solely on KONI, but requires close collaboration and full support from the local government.
In response, Regional Secretary Sudandri Jauzah affirmed the commitment of the Meranti Islands Regency Government to fully support continuous athlete development programs. Sudandri reminded that the maximum performance of the contingent at the provincial sports level would be heavily influenced by the internal solidarity of the organization and a structured coaching system from an early stage.
The meeting concluded with an agreement between both parties to conduct intensive and regular coordination. This solid cooperation is expected to boost the sports achievements of the Meranti Islands and bring home glorious results in the upcoming largest sporting event in Riau Province.
