Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin State Islamic University (UIN) Jambi officially introduced a new facility named Sutha Corner at Campus II Simpang Sungai Duren, Muaro Jambi, on Thursday (2/7/2026). This facility is designed as a culinary center combining an open-air natural concept with social functions for the entire academic community.
Dr. Pahmi SY, M.Si, Vice Rector for General Affairs, Administration, Planning, and Finance, revealed that Sutha Corner is not merely intended to meet the daily consumption needs of over 5,000 campus members active every day. More than that, the venue is projected to be a productive arena for students, lecturers, and the campus community to interact, discuss, and exchange ideas.
From an anthropological perspective, food culture in higher education reflects lifestyles, social values, and community identity. Therefore, the presence of Sutha Corner is expected to pioneer a healthy, sustainable, and inclusive campus business ecosystem. This initiative aligns with the university's role as a Public Service Agency (BLU) in exploring economic potential adaptive to contemporary needs.
In addition to providing healthy and affordable food, Sutha Corner also functions as an entrepreneurship laboratory. Through collaboration with cooperatives and local MSMEs, students are directly engaged in culinary service innovation, business digitalization, and marketing strategies. This approach is expected to foster an entrepreneurial spirit while strengthening the campus's economic independence.
Developing a business based on food culture also carries a moral message that every served dish embodies civilized values. By prioritizing food quality, environmentally friendly waste management, and providing space for dialogue, UIN STS Jambi strives to build a social foundation for future generations who are academically bright while possessing strong ecological and economic awareness.
