PT PLN (Persero) Central Java Transmission Main Unit (UIT JBT) held a training program for converting conventional motorcycles into electric vehicles for students of SMK Sehati Karawang. This step was taken through a Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program named SMART EV to prepare the younger generation for the rapid growth of the environmentally friendly vehicle industry.

The training, initiated in May 2026, provides students with a comprehensive understanding, covering an introduction to vehicle electrical systems, functions of main components, occupational safety procedures, and direct conversion practice. Through this hands-on approach, students are expected not only to understand the theory but also to possess technical skills relevant to current industry standards.

Manager of PLN UPT Karawang, Harry Gumilang, emphasized the importance of human resource readiness in supporting the electric vehicle ecosystem nationally. According to him, the success of the clean energy transition depends not only on the provision of supporting infrastructure, but also on the availability of a skilled workforce right from school to meet future workforce challenges.

A positive response was also expressed by the Principal of SMK Sehati Karawang, Debi Rianti. She explained that this collaboration is an important breakthrough that enriches the school curriculum. Through an applied partnership with the business world and PLN, students gain added value in the form of practical skills that are highly sought after by the modern automotive industry.

The TJSL SMART EV program operates through close synergy between PLN, educational institutions, local government, and the private sector. In its implementation, PT MMP acts as the technical conversion instructor, while aesthetic and painting aspects are fully supported by PT Samurai Paint to produce high-quality final electric vehicle products.

This development program is planned to continue sustainably through the reinforcement of learning facilities at SMK Sehati Karawang. With these strategic steps, PLN is committed to continuing to foster highly competitive local talent while accelerating the energy transition toward a greener future.
