The electric vehicle market in Indonesia now has a new alternative with the arrival of the Changan Deepal S05. The Chinese automotive manufacturer officially introduced Range Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) technology to the country, a system that integrates an electric motor with a gasoline engine acting as a battery-charging generator.
Unlike conventional hybrid cars, the REEV technology in the Deepal S05 still relies on the electric motor as the primary driver of the wheels. The embedded 1,500 cc gasoline engine only serves as an energy supplier when the battery charge runs low. This innovation provides a solution for consumers who want electric vehicle efficiency while still needing long driving ranges without total dependence on public charging stations.
CEO of Changan Indonesia, Setiawan Surya, emphasized that this step was taken to provide flexibility for the mobility of the Indonesian people. The Changan Deepal S05 comes in two variants, BEV and REEV, both built on the EPA1 digital platform. For the REEV variant, the combination of a 27.28 kWh battery and a gasoline generator is claimed to be capable of covering a distance of up to 1,100 kilometers, while the BEV variant offers a range of up to 470 kilometers with a 56.12 kWh LFP battery.
In terms of design, this SUV with a 'Symbiotic Aesthetics' concept won the prestigious iF Design Award 2025. Its cabin interior highlights modern features with a flexible 15.4-inch 2.5K resolution touchscreen. All variants are also designed with a rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration for optimal driving comfort.
As part of its global expansion strategy, Changan has opened pre-orders prior to the official launch. Interested consumers can visit a series of exhibitions held in several shopping centers across Jakarta until mid-July. The company offers various attractive incentives, including a lifetime battery warranty with estimated selling prices starting from Rp500 million.
