The Padang City Government continues to strengthen its commitment to improving public health standards through cross-sector collaboration. This concrete step was visible when Padang Mayor, Fadly Amran, directly inspected the implementation of an education and free health screening program for residents in Berok Nipah Sub-district, West Padang District, on Saturday (4/7/2026).
In the event initiated by the private sector, senior health practitioner and former Deputy Minister of Health I of Malaysia, Datuk Dr. Noor Azmi, was also present. His presence brought a unique dimension to discussions on the urgency of early disease prevention, given his active track record in pandemic management in the neighboring country.
Fadly Amran emphasized that multi-stakeholder involvement is crucial to the success of the flagship 'Padang Melayani' (Padang Serves) program. According to him, this initiative aligns with the city government's Resident Doctor (Dokter Warga) program to ensure more equitable and inclusive healthcare access for all levels of society.
In addition to the education session, local residents received free health screening facilities, including blood sugar, cholesterol, uric acid checks, and Body Mass Index (BMI) monitoring. This activity served as a momentum for the government and health practitioners to map out public health conditions in the region.
On the other hand, a representative of the organizers, Yenni Gunawan, highlighted the urgency of digestive health for the Indonesian public. Based on data, Indonesia currently ranks fourth in the world in colorectal cancer prevalence, a fact that demands increased public awareness of healthy lifestyles and early prevention.
