Regent of Mimika, Johannes Rettob, officially opened the 2026 Student Multi-Sport Event taking place at GOR Futsal SP2, Timika, on Wednesday (8/7/2026). This event is held as part of the celebrations for the 81st Indonesian Independence Day and serves as a concrete manifestation of the local government's commitment to optimizing human resource development through sports.
In his speech, Johannes Rettob outlined the importance of synergy within Mimika's sports ecosystem, which is divided into three main pillars. The first focus is educational sports for early childhood managed by Dispora, followed by competitive sports under KONI, and recreational sports coordinated by KORMI. Through this tournament, the Regent hopes students will not only excel physically but also possess high integrity, discipline, and a strong spirit of brotherhood.
Event Committee Chair, Alberthin Timang, revealed that this event was designed as a strategic platform to scout young athletic talent while fostering a healthy lifestyle culture within school environments. Beyond enhancing non-academic achievements, this event is expected to shape a mindset of sportsmanship and strengthen the bonds of unity among students from various schools across Mimika Regency.
The series of competitions, running through August 14, 2026, features seven sports disciplines. Venues are spread across strategic locations, ranging from GOR Futsal for futsal, karate, and volleyball, to facilities in the MMC area, Amor Basketball Court, W.R. Supratman Street for the 10K run, and the Pomako waters area for rowing events.
