The Muhammadiyah organization has once again gained international recognition after the Coordinator of the Muhammadiyah Emergency Medical Team (EMT), Dr. Corona Rintawan, was appointed as a panelist at a high-level meeting organized by WHO Europe in Istanbul, Turkey, on July 1-2, 2026. This strategic forum focused on efforts to strengthen global health security through emergency management during earthquake disasters.
Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Board, Syafiq A. Mughni, expressed appreciation for this active involvement. He emphasized that this participation is tangible proof of global recognition of Muhammadiyah's contribution to the humanitarian field, which has been consistently demonstrated through real actions in various countries, including during earthquake response efforts in Turkey.
Attended by more than 250 participants from 40 countries, the meeting brought together health ministers, representatives of international organizations, academics, and disaster experts. Over the course of two days, delegates discussed crucial aspects ranging from strengthening resilient health systems, the importance of safe hospitals in disasters, leveraging digital innovations, to post-disaster evaluations for enhancing national preparedness.
As a concrete result of the meeting, the delegation, which was also attended by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, successfully formulated the 'Istanbul Outcome Statement'. This joint commitment aims to align inter-country actions in building health system resilience against increasingly complex earthquake risks in the future.
Dr. Corona Rintawan hopes that the trust placed by WHO in Muhammadiyah will serve as motivation to continue delivering real, impactful contributions to the global community. This step reinforces Muhammadiyah's position as a humanitarian-based organization with professional standards recognized globally.
