The South Sulawesi Provincial Government, together with the Luwu Regency Government, took concrete steps to curb stunting rates by holding an accelerated prevention event at the Bua District Community Health Center (Puskesmas) on Saturday (July 4, 2026). This effort reflects the local government's serious commitment to improving children's health quality to foster an outstanding future generation.
Deputy Governor of South Sulawesi, Fatmawati Rusdi, revealed that Bua District has become a key focus due to data showing that 144 out of 192 children suffer from growth disorders. In her directives, Fatmawati clarified the public's understanding, stating that not all short children are categorized as stunted. Stunting refers more specifically to a condition of failed growth caused by chronic malnutrition and recurrent infections.
"Children who frequently suffer from infections and regularly consume instant foods are at high risk of stunting. Therefore, fulfilling balanced nutrition must be prioritized within the family setting," Fatmawati emphasized. She also encouraged mothers to be more selective when using social media as an educational tool for proper parenting methods for their children.
Welcoming these directives, the Head of the Luwu Regency Family Welfare Movement (PKK) Mobilization Team, Hj. Kurniah Patahudding, expressed appreciation for the presence of the South Sulawesi Deputy Governor. She stressed that support from the provincial level provides extra energy for the regency government in coordinating all stakeholders to tackle the malnutrition problem on a massive scale.
This preventive measure is expected to significantly reduce the prevalence of stunting in the near future. All parties involved are committed to continuously monitoring child growth on a regular basis, demonstrating concrete support for the grand vision of Golden Indonesia 2045, which requires a healthy, smart, and high-quality human resource base.
