Dr. M. Djamil Hospital Padang has officially strengthened its neurointerventional service capacity by introducing flow diverter technology. This medical breakthrough allows the treatment of complex brain blood vessel aneurysms without having to undergo open skull surgery, but rather through a minimally invasive method.
The inaugural procedure was successfully performed on Friday (10/7/2026) on a 56-year-old female patient. This advanced procedure was carried out by inserting a special stent device through a catheter to the aneurysm area, in order to normalize blood flow and reduce pressure on the dilated vessel wall.
This success was achieved thanks to close collaboration between the medical team of M. Djamil Hospital and the proctoring team from the Prof. Dr. Mahar Mardjono National Brain Center Hospital (RSPON), Jakarta. This synergy is part of a national mentorship program to improve regional healthcare service standards in the Central Sumatra region.
President Director of M. Djamil Hospital, Dr. Dovy Djanas, emphasized that this achievement is a major leap forward for regional neurovascular services. With the introduction of this technology, people in West Sumatra, Riau, and Jambi no longer need to be referred out of the region to receive modern and complex aneurysm treatment.
The head of the RSPON proctoring team, Dr. Bambang Tri Prasetyo, added that this procedure requires a high level of precision and expertise. Ongoing assistance is expected to accelerate technology transfer, enabling the medical team at M. Djamil Hospital to independently manage various specific neurological cases in the future.
