Two Agribusiness Study Program students from PSDKU Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Kediri, Berlianti Laksmi Bestari and Trevia Marsyanda Rizki, have successfully completed an internship program through the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) initiative. This activity allowed both of them to study sugarcane tissue culture technology at the facility of PT PG Rajawali I, PG Rejo Agung Baru Unit, Madiun.
During the internship period, the students were directly involved in the crucial process of superior sugarcane seed production. The main focus of learning included monitoring plantlet growth, quality control testing of seeds, and sterilization management to prevent contamination. The entire range of operational activities was carried out using modern laboratory equipment, such as Laminar Air Flow (LAF) hoods and autoclaves, while upholding Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards.
Berlianti expressed that this practical experience opened up new insights regarding the importance of high precision and discipline in agricultural biotechnology. According to her, success in producing superior seeds depends not only on advanced technology, but also on individual thoroughness in adhering to strict operational protocols in an industrial environment.
This synergy between academia and the industrial sector is expected to bridge the gap between lecture theory and field reality. Beyond technical skills, this program also serves as a platform for students to hone communication skills, teamwork, and build a professional work ethic before entering the real workforce.
PSDKU Universitas Brawijaya Kediri reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to facilitate students in mastering cutting-edge agribusiness technology. This step is projected to produce innovative graduates who are ready to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the national sugar industry through the application of modern agricultural science.
