Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Wamendiktisaintek) Stella Christie emphasized the importance of mastering artificial intelligence (AI) for Indonesia's younger generation. During the Young On Top National Conference (YOT NC) annual event, she stressed that mastering this technology is a crucial step toward welcoming a competitive future for the nation.
According to Stella, AI has broad transformative potential, ranging from efficiency in the healthcare sector, optimization in education, to business development. She urged the public to approach this technology wisely, by understanding both the advantages and limitations of artificial intelligence systems.
Furthermore, Stella highlighted the shifting role of higher education in the digital era. She emphasized that campuses must not merely act as distributors of academic material, but must transform into innovation centers capable of critically filtering information to provide real benefits to the broader community.
In her directive, there are three main responsibilities that every university must shoulder: producing new knowledge, distributing relevant educational material, and curating information to prevent disinformation. This aligns with the 'Impactful Higher Education, Science, and Technology' (Diktisaintek Berdampak) vision currently promoted by the ministry to strengthen the national research ecosystem.
The Deputy Minister also invited the public to shift their paradigm regarding the meaning of intelligence. In today's digital era, smart individuals are no longer those who can simply access information quickly via the internet, but rather those who can process data into deep, applicable understanding.
Through strengthening scientific research within campus environments, the ministry hopes that Indonesian higher education graduates will be more adaptive to advanced machinery developments. This step is projected to create human resources capable of making concrete contributions to national development in the future.
