The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, officially opened the East Java Governor's Cup Jatim Open I Roller Skating National Championship (Kejurnas) 2026. The prestigious event held at the Kanjuruhan Roller Skating Rink, Malang Regency, on Saturday (11/7/2026), generated tremendous enthusiasm, gathering 2,436 athletes from 133 teams across various provinces in Indonesia.
The opening ceremony was marked by the firing of an electronic starter pistol by Governor Khofifah, accompanied by Malang Regent Sanusi and General Chairperson of PB Perserosi, Velix Wanggai. In her address, Khofifah emphasized that this championship is not merely a platform to win medals, but a strategic instrument to measure the effectiveness of youth athlete development while serving as a venue for talent scouting toward higher levels.
Furthermore, Governor Khofifah stressed that the East Java Provincial Government is fully committed to building a healthy and sustainable sports ecosystem. This includes providing adequate facilities and intensive training. For her, every medal won by an athlete is a manifestation of discipline and long hard work that must continue to be nurtured so that East Java remains a powerhouse of high-achieving athletes for Indonesia.
This national championship is also a momentum to strengthen the character of the younger generation through the values of sportsmanship. Khofifah appreciated the involvement of thousands of athletes who were deemed capable of spreading positive energy. This aligns with healthy lifestyle campaigns, where sports activities have proven effective in shielding the younger generation from negative influences, including drug abuse.
Echoing these sentiments, General Chairperson of PB Perserosi, Velix Wanggai, highly appreciated the collaboration between the East Java Provincial Government and the Malang Regency Government. He viewed the organization of Jatim Open I as one of the largest roller skating events in the country, serving as an important benchmark for the quality of athlete development across regions. According to him, East Java's consistency in organizing competitions is a key asset to continuously produce new champions on both national and international stages.
