The activity of relaxed running, now popularly known as slow jogging, is becoming a new trend favored by the public. Unlike conventional running which is exhausting, this training method emphasizes light intensity. This allows practitioners to still interact, smile, and breathe steadily without experiencing shortness of breath.

Sports Physiology Expert from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Prof. Zainal Muttaqin, explained that although it seems simple, this exercise still requires thorough preparation to provide optimal results and remain safe for the body. Two crucial aspects that must be paid attention to from the start are adequate hydration and the selection of proper equipment.

According to Prof. Zainal, meeting fluid needs is very important to prevent the body from experiencing overheating. He suggests consuming water gradually, starting from two to three hours before exercising, followed by 30 minutes before starting, as well as drinking small sips every 15 minutes during the activity. In addition, the use of adequate running shoes is also mandatory to absorb impact and protect the knee and hip joints from the risk of injury.

From a physical health perspective, relaxed running has been proven to increase the heart's work efficiency and improve blood flow to the outermost skin tissue. For people trying to lose weight, low-intensity exercise with a relatively long duration like this is actually a highly effective solution for burning body fat optimally.

Interestingly, the benefits of this exercise also extend to mental health. The rhythmic movements during relaxed running can stimulate the vagus nerve (the 10th cranial nerve) which functions to balance the body's stress response. The activation of this nerve helps a person become calmer, reduces the risk of depression, and increases emotional stability, especially when done together with a community or group in a fun way.

In closing, Prof. Zainal reminded beginners to control their emotions and not push themselves when starting this exercise. The training process must be carried out gradually and consistently to avoid the risk of muscle injury and excessive fatigue.
