TANGERANG – The repurposing of public land into illegal nightlife venues in the riverbank area of Batusari Village, Batuceper District, Tangerang City, has sparked strong protests. The Tangerang City Branch of the Indonesian Muslim Youth urges the local government to immediately intervene and secure the area, which is increasingly disturbing residents.
Secretary of the Tangerang City Branch of the Indonesian Muslim Youth, Carlianto, stated that the area, which should be a public space for the community, has instead turned into a hub for unauthorized nightlife activities. An unfinished road project at the location is being exploited by irresponsible parties for activities that disrupt public order.
According to residents, this riverbank area has contrasting dual functions. From morning to afternoon, it is a productive area for exercising, socializing, and a kite-playing field for children. However, when night falls, the lack of adequate street lighting is exploited to host illegal karaoke and gathering spots until the early hours of the morning.
Residents' main complaints center on the noise from loud music that often lasts from 9:00 PM WIB until late at night. The impact of these activities greatly disrupts residents' rest, especially children. In addition to the noise, residents also frequently find leftover liquor bottles and vomit in the morning, indicating alcohol parties at the location.
Physical altercations due to the influence of alcohol have also reportedly occurred in the area. Responding to the increasingly uncontrolled situation, the Indonesian Muslim Youth calls on the Tangerang City Government, Satpol PP (Civil Service Police Unit), and local police to immediately install street lights, intensify security patrols, and restore the function of the Batusari Riverbanks as a friendly, safe, and comfortable public space.
