Mount Semeru, located on the border of Malang and Lumajang Regencies, was reported to again show a significant increase in volcanic activity on Friday (3/7/2026). Throughout the day, the monitoring center recorded seven eruption events spewing volcanic ash into the air.
Based on data from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the highest eruption was recorded reaching 1,300 meters above the crater peak. The observed ash column was grey with thick intensity, leaning towards the mountain slopes.
As of now, the status of Mount Semeru remains at Level III (Alert). Members of the public and tourists are urged not to conduct any activities in the southeastern sector along Besuk Kobokan, up to 13 kilometers from the eruption center, to avoid the risk of pyroclastic flows that could occur at any time.
Authorities continue to closely monitor the movement of magma activity within the crater. Residents are asked to remain vigilant, comply with official recommendations from geological authorities, and not be influenced by issues from unverified sources.
