The North Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov Sumut) is currently boosting the coverage of the Free Health Check (CKG) program as a preventive effort to safeguard public health. As of mid-2026, 3.2 million people have reportedly accessed this health screening service, with a final target of reaching 46% of the total population, or around 7.3 million people, by the end of this year.
The program, which has been running since February 2025, shows positive progress. Head of the Public Health Division at the North Sumatra Health Office, Hery Valona Bonatua Ambarita, revealed that last year North Sumatra ranked fourth nationally with a coverage achievement of 22.56%. This success has motivated the North Sumatra Provincial Government to double its target for the current period.
To facilitate accessibility, the public can receive these health checkup services at 619 Puskesmas (community health center) units distributed evenly across all regencies and cities in North Sumatra. Specific directives have been issued by the Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, to local governments to ensure service optimization in the field so that this ambitious target can be fully realized.
Hery emphasized the importance of active public participation in this program as a step toward early detection of various potential diseases. By knowing one's health condition earlier, medical treatment can be conducted more effectively and efficiently. This step is also part of the North Sumatra Provincial Government's major effort to strengthen Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in order to provide equitable health guarantees for all levels of society.
