The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) recorded a surge in activity at Mount Anak Krakatau located in the Sunda Strait. Between July 2 and July 12, 2026, monitoring instruments detected at least 18 eruption events.
An officer at the Anak Krakatau Volcano Observation Post, Rio Bonik Situmorang, stated that the volcanic character of this mountain tends to be dynamic. Although a series of eruptions occurred, as of Sunday (12/7) there were no reports of additional eruption activity. The last eruption recorded in the monitoring system occurred the previous night at around 23:34 WIB.
As of now, the status of Mount Anak Krakatau remains set at Level III (Alert). The visual monitoring process is currently facing technical obstacles due to the peak area being covered by thick fog, preventing optimal observation from the Pasauran Observation Post in Serang Regency.
To anticipate all possibilities, the PVMBG team continues to optimize 24-hour monitoring using various advanced instruments. The collected data serves as a basis for experts to determine appropriate disaster mitigation measures for the surrounding area.
Authorities maintain an exclusion zone within a three-kilometer radius of the active crater. The public, fishermen, and tourists are urged to comply with these restrictions, stay calm, and rely solely on official information from relevant authorities to avoid panic caused by unverified news.
