The Madiun City Government is finalizing plans for a comprehensive renovation of the Wilis Sports Hall (GOR) area. This strategic move is aimed at improving the quality of sports facilities in the "Kota Pendekar" (Warrior City) to meet the standards for hosting national-level tournaments.
Acting Mayor of Madiun, F. Bagus Panuntun, explained that the revitalization project, targeted to begin next year, focuses on renovating several key facilities, including the badminton and basketball halls. The area will be projected purely as a center for sports training and achievement, rather than just a casual gathering place.
This infrastructure upgrade is expected to attract promoters to host national-scale sports events in Madiun. The presence of competitive tournaments is believed to accelerate the development of local athletes' skills and bring a positive economic impact to the region through sports tourism.
Based on initial estimates, the Madiun City Government projects a budget requirement of IDR 20 billion to IDR 30 billion for the physical construction of the project. The budget remains dynamic as the concept and technical design details are being finalized.
In addition to physical upgrades, the local government's concrete commitment to supporting the sports ecosystem is reflected in a policy offering free use of local government-owned facilities. This policy applies specifically to official training programs and sports organization practices.
With the transformation of the Wilis Sports Hall, the Madiun City Government is optimistic that the city will become a new magnet for hosting prestigious sports events, while nurturing talented athletes who can bring pride to the region on the national stage.
