The Student Creativity Program for Constructive Idea Video (PKM-VGK) team from Nusa Mandiri University (UNM) is preparing to participate in a national competition with an innovation titled DISABI or Disability Smart Accessibility. This project aims to address public transportation accessibility challenges for people with disabilities, especially wheelchair users who often face unaccommodating infrastructure.
The team, consisting of M. Rizky Pradityanto, Nabeel Afzaal, Cahaya Widi Salsabila, Abi Pradana, and Keysha Meyuna, proposed three integrated technology solutions. These innovations include an automatic platform extender to bridge the gap between platforms and trains, a Smart Accessibility feature app for real-time information, and a sensor and CCTV-based passenger flow management system to prioritize mobility for people with disabilities.
In their constructive idea video, the team highlighted real-world field obstacles, such as dangerous platform gaps and a lack of supporting facilities. Through a universal design approach, they hope this technology will not only increase comfort, but also support the independence of people with disabilities in using mass transit.
Advising lecturer Johan Hendri Prasetyo highly appreciated the team's dedication to research and delivering a humanitarian message through visual media. According to him, the students' ability to communicate technical ideas from a social perspective is a crucial added value in the PKM competition.
Head of the Digital Business Study Program at Nusa Mandiri University, Lia Mazia, added that the students' success in integrating digital innovation with social awareness reflects the university's commitment to developing adaptive and solution-oriented talent. Currently, the team is making final refinements to the video material before submitting it to the national level as a concrete form of student contribution to public inclusivity.
